A pediatrician from Volos, Giorgos Charitos, reports numerous cases of gastroenteritis in young children* and attributes this to completely unsuitable water.
The doctor calls for caution and prudence, quotes newsbeast.gr specialist:
“I want you to pay attention – the water that flows in our taps is NOT DRINKABLE. Those of us with children need to be much more careful. Many of our fellow men, dirty and poor like the rest of us, used this water for bathing. This is dangerous, especially for small children who swallow water with EVERY bath. Many people sent us messages that they washed their accumulated dishes with this water. Others used it to wash baby bottles, which they then placed in a sterilizer.
And unfortunately, although expected, we already have many children (in just 24 hours) with symptoms of gastroenteritis. Cook for yourself and your children with bottled water. If you want to use tap water for bathing or washing dishes, especially if you don’t have a filter, collect it and boil it before use. I am begging you. Now is absolutely the wrong time to take risks.”
*Gastroenteritis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach, small and large intestine, predominantly of an infectious nature. In severe cases, it leads to severe dehydration of the body, which disrupts the functioning of internal organs and significantly reduces the patient’s quality of life.
