Decline in exports of summer fruits and vegetables by 9.3%


Harvesting and exporting summer fruits and vegetables last week (August 25, 2023-September 1) continued at a faster pace, however, volumes have so far decreased by 9.3% compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

In particular, according to data processed by the Incofruit Hellas Association of Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, exports amounted to:

  • watermelons – 166,031 tons compared to 187,502 tons last year (11.5% decrease),
  • apricots – 25,949 tons compared to 20,723 tons last year (an increase of 25.2%),
  • peaches – 65,497 tons compared to 70,565 tons last year (down 7.2%),
  • nectarine – 45,834 tons compared to 49,584 tons last year (down 7.6%).
  • cherries – 26,519 tons compared to 34,782 tons last year (23.8% decrease),
  • table grapes – 13,709 tons compared to 15,506 tons last year (down 11.6%).

Exports of oranges from 01/09/22 to 09/01/23 amounted to 349,419 tons (an increase of 30.1%) compared to 268,660 tons in the 2021/22 season.

“In all the countries of the Mediterranean, grape production has suffered great damage, this is happening in our country too,” says Mr. Polichronakis, stressing, however, that its quality is better than last year, and the taste is perfect.
