special operation "Tit": Russian pilot flew Mi-8 to Ukraine

The GUR spoke about this operation earlier, but only today they showed a Russian pilot who was convinced to fly a Mi-8 GUR helicopter to Ukraine, and even with a valuable cargo – components for aircraft.

The head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, told what preceded the special operation “Tit” and how it went:

“We were able to find the right approach to the pilot, take out all the [его] family and, finally, create such conditions so that he can overtake this aircraft with a crew who did not know what was happening. When they realized where they had landed, they tried to run away. Unfortunately, they were destroyed. I would like to [взять] alive, but we have what we have.”

All the nuances of the special operation are described in the documentary film “The Downed Pilots of Russia”, which will be released today, September 3, on the air of the telethon on Ukrainian channels.

In the course of a carefully designed operation, a Russian pilot flew a MI-8AMTSH helicopter loaded with components for combat aircraft to Ukrainian territory. The Directorate of Intelligence confirmed that it was he who was shown in the film. For security reasons, his data was not disclosed, and he himself is shown only today, when both he and his family are no longer in danger. The pilot says: “No one wants this war. You’ll see, when Ukraine wins, it’s only a matter of time…”.

The helicopter landed on August 22 in the Kharkiv region. Before the hijacking, Ukrainian intelligence evacuated the pilot’s family from the territory of the Russian Federation. Two other crew members had to be neutralized. The helicopter contained a valuable cargo of spare parts for Su-27 and Su-30 fighters. Initially, this helicopter was supposed to deliver spare parts to the air base, from which Russian aircraft make regular combat missions.

Artem Shevchenko, author of the “Military Intelligence of Ukraine” series, said that the operation of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was very similar to the operation “Brilliant”, which was carried out in 1966 by the Israeli Mossad, persuading an Iraqi pilot to steal at that time the most modern Soviet MIG- 21.
