Evros: new video shows immigrants in the hands of self-proclaimed "sheriffs"

A video has circulated online showing four migrants being captured by self-styled “sheriffs” on Evros.

A new video uploaded by Valandi Abrassis shows him in camouflage, with the help of other people, detaining four illegal immigrants on the ground. One of them appears to be injured and in pain.

In the video, a man dressed in military clothing says, in part, the following: “Four more, four more good investors … See? In the middle of the day, where are the authorities? Where are the authorities? Here are four more investors, we call the police, no response. They do not respond. Four more investors. Everything is on fire here, everything is on fire “. And we saw that the army and firemen were sitting there. The mountains were burning there and even the planes did not come to put them out. What’s going on, people? What’s going on? There are four more investors here. What should we do?”. (The investor is used as a mockery ,hint…)

According to him, the incident took place near one of the villages in Evros. After a reaction from well-known… “right-wing activists”, he deleted the video from his account. However, in a later message, he speaks of the “children of Soros” who “do not know where Evros is” and came to “bring them to clean water as fascists.”

Greece’s Supreme Court intervened in disturbing incidents of “racism” and “hate” in the country’s northeast after another “self-proclaimed sheriff” arrested and most likely also beat four migrants.

The SC instructed the public prosecutor in Athens, responsible for racism, human trafficking and mistreatment of citizens or foreigners, to investigate the possible commission of criminal acts against refugees and immigrants as a result of complaints and posts by users on Facebook of a racist nature.

In particular, in an order to the prosecutor, reportedly, it is proposed to investigate whether “there are specific criminal incidents that clearly indicate the use of an automatic procedure in order to eliminate any traces of the revival of the medieval phenomenon of self-defense. A process that can expose our country internationally.”

The detention of 13 migrants in a trailer by three self-appointed “sheriffs” in Evros on Tuesday afternoon 22/8 by Alexandroupolis security forces has opened two separate cases.

One of them, concerning 13 migrants, includes charges of attempted arson, manufacture and possession of explosives, and illegal entry into the country. Four out of 13 people were released after the unanimous decision of the prosecutor and the investigating judge.

“This means that they were not convinced that they were attempting arson or were a danger,” said Katerina Georgiadu, a lawyer for one of the 13 migrants. And this despite the testimonies of the persons who had previously detained them…

Three men, two Greeks and a car owner of Albanian origin, are charged with incitement to commit racially motivated or hate crimes, as well as kidnapping and endangerment motivated by racial hatred.

It is noted that these persons handed over an incendiary device to the police, but this did not help them. After a call from Athens, restrictive conditions were applied to the three defendants (self-appointed sheriffs): house arrest, passport seizure and a ban on leaving the country.
