The military base in Eleusis, where the 112th IAP is based, as well as firefighting aircraft, miraculously escaped disaster: during the fire, it turned out that tires had burst on a mobile jet fuel tank. The military managed to pull the tank away from the fire just moments before the explosion.
According to information provided by the publication pronews.grthe fire that broke out in Aspropyrgos on Tuesday (22/8), despite the denials of the General Staff, nevertheless penetrated the territory of the 112th Fighter Wing, based at the airport of Eleusis.
The fire not only penetrated the territory of the military air base, but also almost blew up the 112th air regiment. Which could lead to a repeat of a tragedy similar to what we saw some time ago at Nea Anchialos and at the 111th IAP, as the fire reached the place where the mobile tank truck was located.
In particular, the fire penetrated the territory of the 112th combat wing and burned first the territory where patrol dogs are kept, and then penetrated the territory of the State Aviation Plant, where there was a mobile fuel tank, which was used in the test complex for engines of C-130 aircraft.
However, due to the fact that she had not been moved for many years, the tires burst, and no one changed them. Therefore, it was necessary to raise it as soon as possible so that it did not catch fire and explode!

It is also worth noting that several CL-215s remain on the ground due to fire damage. And this is at a time when Aspropyrgos and Parnita are burning…
