The Vikram module of the Indian station Chandrayaan-3 with a lunar rover made a successful landing at the south pole of the moon.
The Indian spacecraft, as confirmed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), landed on the surface of the moon three days after the collapse of the Russian apparatus. He managed for the first time in history to land near the little-studied south pole of the Earth’s satellite.
According to experts, this area may contain large reserves of frozen water and valuable elements. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the landing a “historic day”.
The largest and heaviest launch vehicle LVM3 with the automatic station “Chandrayan-3” was launched forty days ago, on July 14th. This is the third mission of the Indian program to study the natural satellite of the Earth.
In 2008, the Chandrayaan-1 space probe was launched, the aim of the project was to compile a three-dimensional map of the surface of the moon. In 2019, as part of the Chandrayaan-2 mission, the landing of the module was planned, but communication with the device was lost.
Chandrayaan-3, an Indian spacecraft launched last month, made a soft landing at 18:04 local time on Wednesday, August 23. An Indian lunar rover called Pragyan or Wisdom is designed to analyze the chemical composition of the moon’s surface and search for water during one lunar day, which is equivalent to 14 days on Earth, writes Bloomberg.
