Fire rages in Aspropyrgos – Attiki Odos is closed

In particular, traffic was stopped on NATO Avenue from Triasiou Junction to Zoodochou Pigi in both directions, as well as on Agia Sophia Avenue and NATO Avenue up to and including the mountains. Some time ago exit #4 from Attiki Street was closed.

Currently, Attiki Odos is closed from the entrance to Elefsina to the Perith junction. Aigaleo (5) in both directions. According to the fire brigade, in Aspropyrgos and in particular in the areas of Lakka Katsari, Nea Zoi and Ammoudies, located near the industrial zone, there was three different fires. Fire officials said the fire caused damage to industrial facilities. Later, behind the Triasio hospital, a fire broke out fourth fire.

Earlier, residents of the villages of Pontius, Veras and Lakka Katsari were notified by phone 112 about the need to evacuate from their area. At the same time, a message was sent to the residents of the entire Aspropyrgos area, asking them to close their doors and windows and not to leave their houses because of the smoke coming into their area.

Local residents claim that the fire in Aspropyrgos started last night from a fire in which some gypsy burned electrical cables and tires. Thus, the gypsies clean the cables from insulation.
