The order of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on limiting the powers of Interpol is dated March 31, 2023, but published on August 18.
The document informs that the International Criminal Police Organization can no longer conduct operational-search activities in Russia, writes BB.LV. She is only allowed to conduct surveys, make inquiries, and conduct personal identification.
The order was discussed in February 2023. Then the State Duma deputies accused the organization of “unfriendliness” and suggested that its access to Russian police databases could be used for espionage.
Interpol is an international intergovernmental police organization that coordinates law enforcement agencies. It includes 195 countries. Russia joined Interpol in 1990.
