When the heat subsides: the meteorological service notification


The National Weather Service (EMY) has updated its emergency bulletin with a heatwave warning and an update on when and how much the temperature will drop in the coming week.

According to the latest forecast data for today, July 23, the maximum air temperatures will be:

  • in Thessaly, Central Greece and the Peloponnese from +42 to 44°С and mainly in the interior of Thessaly +45°С,
  • in Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus and their island countries from +39 to 41°С.

Monday, 24.07 the temperature is expected to drop by 2-5 degrees Celsius, with the greatest decrease in the eastern part of the country, and the smallest in the west.

Maximum air temperatures reached:

  • in continental regions from +38 to 40°С and in places in Central Greece and Peloponnese from +41 to 42°С,
  • in the Ionian Islands, Dodecanese and southern Crete from +37 to 39°C, and in the rest of the island of Greece from +35 to 36°C.

Tuesday and Wednesday 25 and 26 July, in the country are expected again very high air temperatures. Their maximum values ​​are reached from +42 to 44°C.

However, on Thursday, July 27, temperatures are expected to drop by 6-8 degrees in most parts of the country.
