On Thursday afternoon in several suburbs of the Greek capital of Athens there were problems with power supply. The power outages appear to be related to power grids being overloaded due to a heat wave sweeping the country and millions of air conditioners and fans running at full capacity.
Power outages occurred in the suburbs of Zografou, Pagrati, Ilisia and Kaisariani, as well as in Hippocrates Polithia, Kolonos, Ruf, Drapetsona, Keratsini, Piraeus, Ano Glyfada and Melisia.
According to the latest information from the Greek electricity distribution network operator DEDDIEthe outages occurred due to overload caused by abnormal heat.
Power outages also occurred in Kalamaria in Thessaloniki, in northern Greece.
Interestingly, the authorities assured that during the heat wave, which practically began on Wednesday, and the peak of which is predicted for Friday and Saturday, July 14-15, 2023, there will be no interruptions in the network. Earlier, the authorities issued a statement where they asked not to lower the temperature on air conditioners below 26 ° C.
