Ellinaras-samodelkin: the result is impressive

When the Greeks are inspired to create something like that, their imagination has no limits.

Sometimes very interesting ideas come to life, for example, the first electric four-wheel self-propelled vehicle “Made in Greece”. It looks like a small car, but classified as a four wheel electric bike and has already managed to attract the attention of the public outside the country.

This is an Orion e-bike that was designed, developed and manufactured in Greece by Gloubos E-bikes 54-year-old electrical engineer Dimitris Gloubos, partner of the University of Macedonia.

The Orion was actually built in Kozani and its creator stated that the inspiration for its development came from the Western Macedonian city itself and its topography, and in response to the exposure of professional distributors using motorized bikes. Bike was developed during the quarantine periodand Mr. Gloubos took full advantage of the restrictions that were in place during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, realizing himself in the most creative way.

Of course, the fact that this is an electric bicycle with four wheels also shows the concern of its creator to reduce the environmental impact and improve the health of its user.

The Orion e-bike, which first appeared about two years ago as a prototype, is still a concept that could have a bright future as it recently won the “Best E-Mobility Application” award at the “Greek Green Awards 2023”. The awards were presented at the 5th international exhibition “Verde.tec”, which took place in March 2023 in Athens.

The award-winning Orion is an improved version of the original model and has slightly larger dimensions: length, width and height, which are 2005, 960 and 1540 mm respectively, and the weight is reduced from 120 to 105 kg, which is one of the main goals of Gloubos.

To help the cyclist a 250W electric motor with a 20Ah battery provides a range of up to 50km or 100km if the Orion is also equipped with a solar panel. The transmission of the Greek e-bike has five gears that shift automatically, and disc brakes located both in front and behind.

In addition to solar panel that theoretically doubles Orion’s range, the Greek electric 4-wheel roll cage bike also features cameras in the mirrors and 20-inch wheels. With the help of electricity, its speed can reach up to 25 km / h, and the turning radius is only 4.95 meters.
