Arrest of ΔΥΠΑ employee for bribery

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, an employee of the State Employment Service (ΔΥΠΑ) was arrested by the Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces on charges of bribery and, as a result, dereliction of duty.

The case also involves an employee, a relative of a person arrested for complicity in bribery, and 13 other individuals accused of bribing a civil servant. The reason for the start of the investigation was the corresponding complaint of the State Employment Service, according to which the employee illegally canceled fines to companies for late notification of employees about their dismissal.

As it turned out during the investigation, at least from March 16, 2023, the above-mentioned employee, using his status, systematically demanded monetary compensation in the amount of 50 to 100 euros in order to avoid imposing a fine of 400 to 800 euros on the companies. At the same time, it turned out that his relativealso an employee of the State Employment Service, provided him with the necessary assistance in the implementation of his actions and informed about any acquaintances of accountants with employees of the service in order to avoid disclosure of his actions.

The detention took place early on Thursday morning, while the second person involved in the case (the one who gave the bribe) was also arrested at the same time. During a search of the house, 4,050 euros and 2 mobile phones were found and confiscated.

To date, the employee’s involvement has been established in at least 15 cases, while the investigation to verify and establish similar cases is ongoing. The detained person with the case initiated against him was brought to the competent body of the prosecutor’s office.
