Mitsotakis excludes joint Greek-Turkish exploitation of energy resources in the Aegean Sea

If Turkey wants to move closer to Europe and open up to the West, Greek-Turkish dialogue must resume, New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview with ANT1 on Wednesday.

The dialogue will deal with “the only difference [между нами]namely, the delimitation of the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean,” he stressed.

Speaking before the NATO summit in Vilnius (July 11-12), which will also be attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Mitsotakis repeated that “we have nothing to discuss – the issues of sovereignty and demilitarization are not discussed” if they meet in Lithuania.

The ND leader and former prime minister strongly ruled out the possibility of joint exploitation of energy resources in the Aegean with Turkey. He also said that “Turkey should reconsider its actions in Thrace” in terms of the Greek Muslim minority and influence on national elections, and said that he would discuss this issue “openly with Erdogan.”
