Coast Guard ship camera footage may shed light on Pylos wreck

Video taken on the mast of Coast Guard ship 920 (Λιμενικού Σώματος 920) “Υποκελευστής Α’ ΛΣ ΜΟΥΡΜΟΥΡΗΣ Γρηγόριος” camera, audio records of conversations, as well as five important pages of the logbook located on the bridge of the patrol vessel, which was next to the fishing vessel in distress at Pylos, from June 15 handed over to the judicial authorities.

This material is expected to shed light on the circumstances of the tragic shipwreck with dozens of dead and about 550 missing. in.gr.

The Greek publication also drew attention to the fact that coast guard officers had previously told the media that “no footage of the dramatic incident was taken from the coast guard boat, because “there was no one left in the rescue operation to film what was happening.” Coast Guard officers noted that “this state-of-the-art vessel is equipped with Israeli-made electronics and sensors, as well as a camera – as shown in the photographs of this patrol boat – on a mast above the bridge.”

The same applies to other vessels that were delivered three years ago bcoast guardwhere there is a clear indication that they are equipped with a recording camera, a thermal imager, etc. The visual material should help establish what the approach of the Coast Guard ship to the fatal fishing vessel was, and what happened during those critical hours.

Moreover, there is a possibility that, despite the fact that it was midnight and complete darkness, a picture could be obtained – perhaps with the help of ship searchlights – of capsizing a fishing vessel, trapping hundreds of people, rescue, etc.

According to court documents, court officials investigating the circumstances of the shipwreck were given audio documents, radio communications of this ship with a fishing vessel, with other vessels, everything that was recorded on the ship’s bridge and the coast guard operations center. Also provided are photocopies of five pages of the bridge’s logbook, which accurately records all of the Coast Guard’s movements.

This situation puts in a difficult position the members of the Coast Guard, who previously declaredthat they were far from the ship in distress and could not help the victims of the shipwreck. Later, they changed their testimony and began to say that they were nearby, but everything happened too quickly. What will be on the cameras ΛΣ 920? Will there be information that the Coast Guard is responsible for the strange sinking of a ship with migrants?
