Rhodes: British tourist raped at sea

Today, an arrested Albanian citizen testifies to the investigator about the rape of a British tourist who filed a complaint with the Rhodes police.

He was detained shortly after midnight on June 4, 2023, on charges of double rape – first on Glistra beach and then in Kiotari, in the apartment where the girl lived. The testimony of the victim says that she met the Albanian two weeks ago, they exchanged messages through the WhatsApp application. On June 3rd, they agreed to meet at about 1 pm at her apartment. The guy arrived on his brother’s motorcycle and they went to the beach. There in the sea, while swimming, a young man had sexual intercourse without her consent, writes CNN Greece.

Then, at around 4:00 pm, they returned to her apartment, where the guy undressed her and tried to have sexual contact with her against her will. However, when testifying, the Albanian denies the rape and claims that everything was “consensual”.

According to him, they met at a health food store in Kiotari, where he worked. He approached her, asked her for Instagram, and they started chatting using that particular app. On May 29, 2023, in a friend’s car, they drove to the beach near Kiotari and kissed, but the relationship did not develop, as she said that she was “not ready” for this.

On May 30 in the evening, the guy met her again in her room, they kissed, and at midnight he left, giving her the phone number that he used in the Whatsapp application. On Saturday, he came to her room, knocked on the door, she did not open it for him, and then saw that he had left flowers outside the door, the victim says. She did not answer him, on June 2 they communicated only by text messages, and on June 3 they met in her room and went on a motorcycle to Glistra beach to sunbathe and swim.

They went around some rocks in search of a more secluded place where others could not see them, and while they were in the water, he tried to have sexual intercourse with her, which he succeeded. The guy claims that during this he hit his back on the stones, but did not use violence against her. At that time, a family walking along the beach saw them and they stopped. The young man persuaded the girl to go home, and since, according to her, she was in a state of shock, she did not refuse, and they had sexual intercourse under his pressure, but without physical violence from him.

In his testimony, he emphasized that in his 11 years of work in Rhodes, nothing like this had happened to him, and that they had sexual intercourse with her consent and even encouragement: “For a week we met almost every day, usually in the evening. there was no reason to do it in public, on a crowded beach.”

The investigation continues, and the truth will definitely be established, the newspaper writes.
