ND Concern over Second Election Results Leads to Third Vote Scenario in August

New Democracy’s anxiety about achieving a one-party government was conveyed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Greek society in an interview on ERT, where he reaffirmed that if he does not achieve 155 seats in parliament in the June 25 elections, he will run for a third election in August.

However, there is a real risk that even with an expanded proportional representation and a maximum bonus of 50 seats, the ND will not be able to get a relatively good 155 seats. Because 151 seats is even worse than… a coalition government.

With 151 seats, the ND will not have the space to carry out its government policies in the long term, and at the same time there will be no “lifeline” in the form of a … coalition. And in this case, they would like to be in a coalition…

Mitsotakis explained yesterday: “We are asking for a strong self-reliance, a stable government capable of making major changes. Since I have categorically ruled out any partnership with parties and factions to the right of New Democracy, this scenario will lead us to elections in August. Let’s go.” Let’s not deceive ourselves.”

Someone will say: “Well, even with 40% they are afraid that the New Democracy will not have self-confidence”? They are afraid, because in the past, self-sustaining governments existed when the parliament was at most… six-party. The seven-party government strongly “skews” the situation. In any case, elections in August are also Russian roulette.

August itself is terrible for elections, since 70% of the country goes on vacation at this time. Indeed, how much will this help Mitsotakis? Turnout in this case is guaranteed to be extremely low. No Greek is currently willing to spend his vacation to go and vote.

The reason is very simple, every year it becomes more and more difficult for a Greek citizen. All he has left are these two summer weeks to relax on the beach and try to clear his head of all the problems that are bothering him.

So, if he doesn’t get the confidence he craves in the second election, what makes Kyriakos Mitsotakis so optimistic that he will succeed in the third election in August? Because citizens who will be absent from the polls will not listen to party advertisements and propaganda, and no one can predict what percentage of them will vote for New Democracy, Syriza, or any other party. It’s basically just a threat: “If you don’t vote for me, there will be consequences.”

But such a possibility shows more fear and anxiety. And if a politician launches such a “warning”, he is either too sure that he is close to achieving his political goal, or he has other methods to achieve the desired result.

It should be noted that August is the most unexplored month in political terms for the whole year. It is no coincidence that polls are almost never conducted in August. This is because pollsters know they will never get the “correct” results. The thoughts of the Greeks in the month of holidays are elsewhere…

However, maybe this is exactly what the leader of the “New Democracy” is counting on?
