A consignment of cocaine weighing 161 kg was found in the port of Thessaloniki

According to law enforcement, the drugs arrived at the port of Thessaloniki ten days ago and were placed in the tunnels in two containers with bananas that arrived from Ecuador.

A cargo of 161 kg of cocaine, discovered and seized yesterday, 2/06, in the port of Thessaloniki, belonged to a multi-member criminal organization that was liquidated at the beginning of last month. The value of the prohibited cargo is estimated at around 18 million euros, and the profit from imports and sales is 3,200,000 euros.

In early May, a total of 14 members of a criminal group were arrested in Greece, including a 68-year-old doctor who had previously been involved in fuel and cigarette smuggling cases. About 104 kg and 600 grams of cocaine were found and seized, which the criminals hid and took out in containers with bananas.

As it turned out, the two containers containing the new shipment of cocaine were sent by the same company from Ecuador and received by the same company from Skopje. That’s the evidence authorities say they are the same drug gang.

Inspector General of the Police of Northern Greece, Lieutenant General Spyridon Sklavos, spoke about the “significant success” of the Narcotics Sub-Directorate during a briefing at the Thessaloniki Police Headquarters. Mr. Sklavos praised the work of all those involved in this important success for the Greek police and added that “police investigations will continue until the complete elimination of drug trafficking.”

This is one of the largest shipments of cocaine found in Greece, said the director of the security service of Thessaloniki, Lieutenant General Georgios Papadopoulos.
