Illegal buildings being demolished in Mykonos

This morning, June 1st, the bulldozers arrived at Nammos in Mykonos.

On the initiative of the owners of the company, illegally built buildings were demolished. The order was signed by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Fimios Bakoyannis.

For those who are not in the know: Nammos in Mykonos is as important as Red Square in Moscow. Guests come here from all over the world. And in the list of must-see places to visit, Nammos is at the top.

This is one of the most famous restaurants on the island. Note that not the best, but most famous. It is here that you can meet world stars, including Hollywood actors and first-rate football players. What distinguishes Nammos from all the rest is a stylish, well-groomed and large territory.

A definite plus open air shopping. Boutiques of almost all popular brands are collected here. Also on the territory is the Eden Art Gallery, which presents interesting exhibits (scroll through the carousel), as well as a children’s playground with staff.

And now, on the first day of the calendar summer, bulldozers arrived in this “paradise on earth” and began demolishing buildings. Voluntary demolition was legalized after the adoption of relevant decisions that recognized some square meters as illegal.

Nammos management wanted to demonstrate compliance with the law at a time when authorities are conducting a large-scale investigation and are trying to clean up building excesses (allegedly illegally built shops and tourist sites) on the famous island.

Over the next few days in Mykonos is expected wave of voluntary demolitions, activated by the decree of the General Secretary for the Environment T. Bakoyannis and the Prosecutor for Appeals Mr. Tzorbazoglu. This will be done to ensure that the island has a successful start to the tourist season and that all businesses and shops operate in a legal manner.
