Want to spend a day at the beach? Check prices on the Athenian Riviera

As temperatures rise and summer approaches, more and more people flock to the beaches to swim and sunbathe. But how much does it cost to relax on an organized beach with sun loungers, umbrellas, a snack bar and sanitary facilities?

There are cheap and not very organized beaches around Athens near free beaches where you have to bring your own coffee, water, snacks, umbrella, sun lounger and beach towel.

Please note that on organized beaches, the price is higher on weekends, and there are usually special discounts for people with disabilities and seniors over 65.

According to a report from the state broadcaster ERT, about some indicative prices at municipal beaches:

  • Alimos beach: entrance 6 euros and 2 euros per sunbed, on weekends the entrance price rises to 8 euros. A reduced ticket costs 3 euros, and admission is free for residents of the area.
  • Vouliagmeni beach: entrance 10 euros, reduced ticket 5 euros. Admission is free for children under 5 and people with disabilities.

The cost of sun loungers on weekdays is 20-30 euros, and on weekends – 30-40 euros, depending on the chosen place. If you want to lie down right in front of the sea or on weekends, the price rises to 30-40 euros. Coffee is €4, mixed juice is €6.5 and a club sandwich is €15.

  • Kavouri beach: a set of sunbeds costs up to 14 euros, a scoop of ice cream costs 3 euros, and a “granita” costs 4 euros.

Please note that there are several organized beaches along the Athenian Riviera to Cape Sounion and beyond, many of them privately priced reach 100 euros for a sunbed for two and up to 180 euros on weekends.

At the same time, there are many free beaches, many of which are in better condition than a few years ago, as municipalities planted trees for shade and equipped chemical toilets.

It is also worth noting that there are beaches with easy access for people with disabilities, and some of them are free, like the Blue Flag beach in the suburbs of Glyfada.

Please note that a report on clean beaches is expected in the coming days and we may return to this topic in a new post.
