Athens is gearing up for the New Year with a countdown at Syntagma Square and parties at Thisseio and the Varvakeio meat market.
Meanwhile, in the area of Thisio, at the foot of the Acropolis, there will be a countdown party with live music, DJ sets and other performances.
Renowned tenor Marios Frangoulis and Greek-French singer Giorgos Perris, accompanied by a 10-piece Symphony Orchestra, will celebrate the year 2023 with thousands of Athenians and visitors at Syntagma Square. The program will begin at 22:30 on Saturday 31 January 2022.
A few minutes before midnight, Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis will take the stage and begin the countdown to the New Year. The event will be accompanied by fireworks. The countdown will be broadcast live on state broadcaster ERT 1 every year.
In the Varvakeyo meat market area, DJs will launch an open party for everyone, which will last until the early hours of the morning. Meanwhile, in the area of Thisio, at the foot of the Acropolis, there will be a countdown party with live music, DJ sets and other performances.
All events city of Athens are free. An amazing New Year’s Eve fireworks display and dance party is also being prepared at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on the south coast of Athens.
