Healing Greece: "grief onion"

Onions are mainly known for two things: bad breath and tears. But did you know that raw onions also have unique healing and antibacterial properties that cleanse and detoxify our body, as well as protect against serious diseases?

Onions are high in sulfur compounds, which not only give onions their characteristic smell, but are also a very powerful detoxifier. With over 100 of these compounds found in its cell walls and causing tears in our eyes when we cut it, onions can help prevent and treat many serious diseases, from diabetes and heart disease to cancer and asthma.

It is curious that the first mention of the bow was found on the walls of the pyramid of Cheops. In ancient Egypt, onions were among the important supplies that needed to be made before going to the afterlife.

The benefits of onions

The vegetable is rich in phytoncides and B vitamins, vitamin C, PP, E, D, K, contains biotin, carotenoids, citric and malic acids, essential oil, mono- and oligosaccharides, flavonoids. There are 19 macro- and microelements in onions. The plant has phytoncidal activity. Onions are one of the healthiest foods for human beings.

See exactly how onions are useful for diseases such as:

1. Cardiovascular system

When we think of heart-healthy foods, onions don’t usually come to mind. However, their quercetin content has been found to significantly reduce high blood pressure in adults with hypertension, according to a study published in the journal Nutrition. In addition, onion reduces the “hardening” (calcification, brittleness) of the arteries.

2. Diabetes

High consumption of onions can lead to lower glucose levels. Onion essential oil (allyl propyl disulfide) has been found to helps lower blood sugar levels by increasing the amount of available free insulin. This particular disulfide competes with insulin, which is also a disulfide, to get to the liver, where the insulin is inactivated.

It is this “competition” that leads to an increase in available insulin, which in turn lowers blood sugar levels. A study published in the International Journal of Clinical Chemistry found that onion essential oil resulted in a significant reduction in blood glucose levels and an equally significant increase in insulin levels after administration to six healthy volunteers who had not eaten anything for 12 hours.

3. Asthma

Bow possesses antihistamine properties due to quercetin, an antioxidantwhich acts as an antihistamine and anti-inflammatory agent. It has been shown in laboratory experiments that quercetin blocks the release of histamine from cells, a chemical that causes an allergic reaction. Based on this observation, the researchers believe that antioxidants may reduce histamine and other allergenic or inflammatory chemicals in the body and may help treat asthma.

However, there are no human studies to confirm whether this theory is true in practice. However, many scholars argue that onions help relieve asthma symptoms because they act as a powerful antioxidant. After all, there are studies that have shown that quercetin causes bronchial dilation, which makes it easier to breathe.

4. Oral hygiene

Raw onions can increase bad breath, but at the same time, they can improve oral health. Chewing raw onions can kill bacteria that wears down teeth (cavity-causing bacteria).
