A dead man resting on the bottom of the sea was seen by tourists when they made an excursion trip around the neighborhood on a boat with a “transparent bottom”.
The tragic event took place on the afternoon of May 27 on the island of Zakynthos. A young man aged 24 was pulled dead from the bottom of the sea. His body was at a depth of about 5 meters. The incident occurred in the waters of Marathonisi beach.
According to eyewitnesses, the foreigner went with his friends on a tourist boat, which makes daily boat trips to Marathonisi, and began to swim about 20 meters from the shore. The circumstances under which the tragic incident occurred are unknown, since everything happened suddenly and under quite normal conditions (with good calm weather). Wherein neither the other bathers nor the guy’s company realized that the young man had drowned, “just lost sight of him for a while.”
At some point, one of the tourists, seeing a man lying at the bottom of the sea, screamed, and immediately panic seized everyone. The skipper called the coast guard, and rescuers removed the man’s body from the bottom. It turned out to be a Frenchman who was vacationing on the island.
How the tragedy happened is under investigation by local law enforcement agencies. An autopsy will shed light on the cause of death.
