After five days in intensive care, a wounded boy who witnessed the murder and suicide of his parents in Chalkidiki is being prepared for transfer to a pediatric surgery clinic – he will have another operation.
The child saw his father kill his mother and was himself wounded. The boy underwent surgery and was intubated for 5 days.
How informs newsbeast.gr, on Thursday 25 May, doctors at the Hippocratic Hospital in Thessaloniki, a pediatric intensive care unit, extubated him. Unfortunately, he will need more surgery. On Friday, doctors began removing shrapnel from the face, under the eyes and nose, and in the neck. The first operation concerned a deep wound between the elbow and the palm.
The incredible tragedy in Halkidiki is difficult to understand and comprehend: a 36-year-old man shot his 39-year-old wife in cold blood with a rifle while she was holding her son, who had problems with movement. He shot himself with the same weapon. Terrible events took place in front of the child, who after that spent five hours in the apartment in a state of shock, alone with the bloodied bodies of those closest to him, unable to react and call for help.
The tragedy occurred on May 22 in the morning, when the head of the family was going to work. Entering the children’s room, he shot his wife four times, hitting her in the shoulder, armpit, back and neck. Then he went into the family bedroom and shot himself in the mouth. The second child, a 12-year-old girl, was with her grandmother at that time.
The stressed-out boy was discovered at 11 am by his aunt, next to his parents lying in a pool of blood. The child was taken to the hospital, and friends and relatives of the couple still cannot believe what happened.
