Dog Owners: How to Know if Your Pet is in Pain and Needs Help

Veterinarians warn dog owners about little-known signs that your pet is in serious pain and tell them when to seek professional help.

The British edition The Sun, citing the urgent VETS warning. Unfortunately, our four-legged friends can’t talk, and it’s often hard enough to notice when they’re suffering. But experts say there are a number of signs – some obvious and others not so obvious – that could indicate our beloved dogs are suffering.

Behavior change

According to veterinary emergency service Vets Now, a four-legged friend’s aggressive or antisocial behavior could mean they’re in pain. Is your dog hiding or acting unusually antisocial? This may also be a sign. The dog may stop running to the door to happily greet you, avoid contact, and even show some signs of aggression.

daily habits

Another way your friend can complain about pain is by changing their normal daily habits. Experts note that dogs in pain sleep more – sometimes trying to heal themselves in this way, and sometimes because it is difficult for them to move around and be active. Common symptoms are loss of appetite, change in the amount of water you drink. Affected dogs sometimes become more noisy – they may bark or howl.

Restlessness

Note that if your dog is having a hard time getting comfortable, constantly pacing up and down, sleeping much less than usual, this is a sign of a problem. Most owners are well aware of the position in which the pet usually settles on the sofa or on its lounger, how it sits or sleeps. A change in the usual position of the body indicates poor health, especially a hunched posture.

Too much “purity”

If there is a wound or other injury, the dog licks the area, while calming himself and treating the cut, for example, or other injury. But sometimes the pain is internal, in the absence of external wounds, so you need to pay attention to this. As well as the fact that your friend’s trembling does not always mean that he is cold. Both of these signs can indicate serious problems – pancreatitis, poisoning, kidney disease.

Stiffness in movement and breathing

Lameness and stiffness are most often a sign of pain, which can result not only from injury, but also quite likely from arthritis. In such cases, the dog is less active than usual.

Another sign of unhealthy is heavy breathing, although the level of activity has not changed, and the dog is not hot. This is a sign that there is a problem, the dog needs help and it is best to take your pet to a knowledgeable veterinarian.

If your dog is experiencing any of the above signs, it is important to seek the advice of a specialist in time.
