Despite the rainy weather, thousands of Greeks demonstrated in many cities of the country, and many then went to the forest for May Day.
“In the elections of May 21, by voting for the KKE, we are strengthening it so that our people, the working people’s movement, the social alliance of the working class with the self-employed in towns and villages are strong, in order to prevent anti-popular measures, breathe a sigh of relief, but above all, to open the way for radical changes in the economy and society, to fight against the anti-people policies of all capitalist governments, the EU, NATO, the exploiters of our people. We continue our fight with a vengeance!”
G. Perros noted that “no promised government Messiah can provide a solution to the everyday and acute problems that every working family faces. On the contrary, a common program, a common god, in which all the parties that support the exploitative system believe, requires the existence of a powerful working people’s movement on May 22, strong trade unions that can repel its attacks.
The strike actions in Athens were attended by a delegation of trade unionists from France, who is in Greece and shares their experience of many months of struggle against the government and employers. On behalf of the delegation of French trade unionists, the General Secretary of the Marseille Workers’ Center Olivier Matho delivered a welcoming speech. “Not a single worker in the world has common interests with his exploiters,” he stressed and called for an intensification of the class struggle, the struggle on all fronts, by any means.
Nikos Takas, Deputy Chairman of the Trade Union of Catering – Tourism – Hotels of Attica, an employee of the Wolt electronic platform, spoke about the struggle of the workers of the Wolt company, who work 12 and 14 hours a day and are considered “partners” of the company, and not employees, as a result, they are deprived of their fundamental rights.
Dimitris Gionis, chairman of the trade unions of student dentists of Athens, made a welcoming speech on behalf of the students. “We pay tribute to the workers who create all the wealth with their labor, mind,” he said, and also stressed that “the policy that puts profit above our life will not stop if we do not stop it.”
