According to a circular released by the Department of Justice on Tuesday May 2, lawsuits and auctions for foreclosed homes are suspended from May 17 to May 24 ahead of the May 21 national elections.
Specifically, the circular stated:
- The work of the civil and criminal courts in Athens and Thessaloniki will be suspended from 17 to 26 May. Criminal cases pending before May 17, which should be continued after this date, will be suspended.
- Also, criminal cases in which the period of detention of detainees expires are exempted from suspension.
- The details of immediate detention (aftoforo) and prohibition of suspension (meter paving) will be governed by the respective local courts.
- Auctions of seized property are also suspended from May 17 to May 23, and land cadastral authorities, staffed by the public service, will suspend their activities from May 19 to 22.
