Nine robberies in the southern suburbs of Athens were committed by criminals detained by the Southeast Attica Security Directorate.
Two members of a criminal group who robbed gas stations, kiosks and health stores, mainly at night, threatened employees with weapons and took away all the money in the cash registers, tells CNN Greece. One of them just got out of prison in 2020 doing community service in the municipality of Attica.
Replicas* of the pistol, knives and clothes used in the robberies were confiscated from the bandits. In a statement ΕΛ.ΑΣ. says:
Two citizens, 46 and 33 years old, were detained at noon on Sunday, April 23, 2023. A criminal case was initiated against them on the fact of creating a criminal organization (gang), robberies – both committed and attempts, repeated violations of laws on weapons and drugs.
As it turned out during the investigation, the above persons, at least since the beginning of last month (March 2023), have united in a criminal group with the aim of systematically committing robberies against employees of gas stations, sanitary stores and kiosks in the districts of Glyfada, Vari, Vouliagmeni and Elliniko. Acting according to a certain methodology, on the basis of a pre-agreed and specific plan, they thus received illegal property benefits.
As for the mode of action, they preferred to carry out robberies in the evening or early morning hours, heading to the objects together or one by one, using vehicles (motorcycle or car). To commit robberies, the criminals used dummies of pistols, with which they intimidated shop assistants, and then took the proceeds.
Characteristic of their systematic, repeated and continuous actions is the fact that on April 12, within a few hours, a 46-year-old man committed three robberies in a row in order to maximize his booty.
To put an end to their criminal actions, the evidence and data of the preliminary investigation were used, during which all the details were fully established, which led to the identification and arrest of the robbers.
Early on the morning of Sunday, April 23, 2023, they were discovered by police from the ΔΙ.ΑΣ team. Southeast Attica moving on a motorcycle in the area of Glyfada. At the sight of the police, they rushed off, leaving a replica pistol on the road, but were soon detained not far from this place.
As a result of the searches carried out in their homes, they found and confiscated: a part of the clothes in which they were wearing during the robbery, two knives, 44 drug tablets, a fake pistol.
So far, the investigation has shown that members of the criminal group are involved in nine cases of robbery, one of which was an attempted robbery. From their criminal activities, they received a total of 4,000 euros, which, as it turned out, was spent on gambling.
Those arrested, who have already been involved in the past for theft, fraud, embezzlement and possession of drugs, will be taken to the Athenian prosecutor’s office.
*Weapon replicas are souvenir copies of various swords, sabers, daggers, and firearms that are almost identical in appearance.
