The images of Maria Callas and Konstantinos Karathéodoris will adorn the new 2 euro commemorative coins.
The issue of two commemorative coins will be made in accordance with the presidential decree submitted to the State Council. The first, featuring Maria Callas, will be released on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of her birth. The second will be released on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of university mathematician Konstantinos Karathéodoris.
Commemorative coins with portraits of Maria Callas and Konstantinos Karathéodoris will be issued with a circulation of 750,000 pieces each. The cost of issuing them amounted to 690,000 euros, the amount will come from the budget of the Ministry of Finance.
