The hangover in mice has already been dealt with, the next person

Scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have created a probiotic that, according to a study, successfully cures a hangover. As long as mice have it, humans are next.

An innovative tool reduces the harmful effects of alcohol on the body and helps to overcome the effects of a hangover, tells newspaper Daily Mail, referring to the results of a study published In the magazine Microbiology Spectrum.

While developing the drug, Chinese scientists gave several groups of mice the ADH1B probiotic and then exposed the rodents to varying degrees of alcohol. In those who received the drug, signs of intoxication did not appear much longer. In addition, the experimental animals retained the ability to move better than their relatives, who were not given the probiotic.

The study found that as early as two hours after drinking, the ADH1B-treated mice began to drop in blood alcohol levels, while those of the non-drug group continued to rise. Also, mice that took the probiotic showed significantly lower levels of lipids and triglycerides in the liver. This suggests that ADH1B may reduce the negative effects of alcohol on this organ.

The beneficial effect of ADH1B is due to its ability to regulate the conversion of alcohol to acetaldehyde. It is this substance, accumulating in the liver, that causes headaches and nausea during a hangover. However, the usefulness and safety of probiotics in humans has not yet been proven. Perhaps in the future it could be used to reduce damage to the liver and intestines from drinking alcohol.
