K. Mitsotakis: “We want immigrants to come to Greece to work, but in an organized way”

Against the backdrop of the newly built fence, Mitsotakis of Evros wanted to bring back the voices of the traditional right (he had previously forgotten about them, as he preferred to “play” PASOK) and announced its expansion, wanting to show his tough image, but he also could not help revealing his thoughts about the immigration policy he wants to follow.

Mitsotakis said the following: “We must accept immigrants in areas where we have a shortage of workers, in an organized manner. In areas where there is a shortage [работников], we must accept residents of other countries so that they come and work, but in an organized manner. They will come, work and return whenever they want to our country, but it will be legal.”

The premier also spoke about the new immigration code, he stated: “We must not forget that we are also voting for a new immigration code. This is a breakthrough that finally clarifies the conditions for the legal residence of some people in our country. It allows, for example, minor children who came and studied in a Greek school to stay in our country and claim a better future here, if – I emphasize again – they spent at least three years in a Greek school”.

The event took place right next to the fence, which is already built in Poros (Feres district). First, speeches were made by border guards, as well as ministers of immigration and asylum Notis Mitarakis and protection of citizens Takis Theodorikakos.

It should be noted that yesterday, on Friday, March 31, a contract was signed with the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection for the construction of an additional section of the fence. The project was carried out by “Intrakat” together with TERNA SA. On the Intrakat side, Vice President and Managing Director Alexandros Exarchu was in Feres and signed the contract.

The project includes the construction of a 35 km long profile barrier (fence) on the section between Psatades Didymoteicho and Kornofolia Soufli on the Greek-Turkish border and other works for proper border protection.

This is the first part of the fence extension, which was announced earlier this year as part of the AKRITAS project by the Ministry of Civil Protection and the Greek Police. Recall that the state decided to extend the fence for 140 km along the Evros border line in order to protect the country’s borders. The association of companies Intrakat – TERNA has pledged to quickly complete the project in order to ensure the protection of national and European borders, since in the area between Psathades and Kornofolia there are numerous paths and “vulnerable” points that facilitate the entry of illegal immigrants into Greece.
