“Silent” crime, “silent” crime is called sexual abuse of minors – far from always the victims tell their relatives about it, because of fear or embarrassment.
Experts draw attention to the increase in registered cases, but the punishment sometimes does not correspond to the severity of the deed. More and more complaints are being filed with the competent authorities, and this proves that now both children and parents are more informed about where to go in case of physical and sexual abuse of children. Kyriaki Lambrianidou, head of the Vulnerable Persons Department of the Police Headquarters, says, writes newsbeast.gr that compared to the corresponding period last year in 2023, the number of complaints increased by 33% – 80 complaints have already been registered:
“We have already received 80 complaints, last year we had 60 in the same period.”
He explains this by the fact that people began to trust specialists more than in previous years. The director of the department also urges to devote more time to children, communicate with them correctly, pay attention to some signs that indicate the existence of problems:
- Changes in behavior if they are not appropriate for their age.
- The appearance of symptoms of depression.
- Making New Friends – Sometimes new friendships can be drug-related.
Children need control, especially in this technological age. The main task, experts point out, should be prevention.
