Kefalonia: earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale

An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred at noon on Friday 10/05 on the island of Kefalonia. There were no casualties or any damage recorded.

According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 13:48, is located 5 kilometers south/southwest of Lixouri. The depth of the vibration source is estimated at 15 kilometers.

Residents of Kefalonia, which is located in one of the most seismically active places on the planet, are not surprised by earthquakes, but many residents of the island fear that this is a return to the period of increased seismic activity, when earthquakes of similar magnitude occurred almost every day.

And despite the fact that almost all the buildings on the island are built using seismically resistant technologies, living “like on a washboard” is not a pleasure. Moreover, many experts believe that constant earthquakes weaken even the strongest structures, which can sooner or later collapse due to constant vibration.
