Bangladeshi citizen among train derailment victims

Another body was identified a week after the fatal train crash. A DNA match showed that the body belonged to a 33-year-old Bangladeshi citizen who lived and worked in Greece. The man lived in Greece for about ten years and made a living selling accessories.

Details of yet another victim of the Tempe train tragedy are being established. Mohammad-Edriz Mia was driving an Intercity IC-62 from Athens to Thessaloniki. According to media reports, a friend of the man, also from Bangladesh, who knew about Mia’s trip, approached the authorities, providing a friend’s toothbrush for DNA sampling. DNA samples from biological material collected from the collision site and from the toothbrush showed a match. Mia has lived in Greece for the last ten years and has made a living selling accessories.

Meanwhile, the parents of one student are depressed because their daughter is not on the list of victims and has not been identified by DNA.

The official death toll from last week is still 57. The authorities are in no hurry to announce identification data, fearing a mistake, and the relatives of the missing at this time “do not find a place for themselves” because of worries about the fate of their relatives.
