A suspicious bag that was left by an unknown passerby outside the Russian Consulate General in Thessaloniki was destroyed in a controlled explosion.
Local media reports that the call center Άμεσης Δράσης (Immediate Action) from the Consulate General of Russia in Thessaloniki received a message about a black garbage bag (according to other sources – a black bag) left by an unknown passer-by, after which an order was immediately given to block the area around diplomatic missions. According to the guard of the Consulate General, the unknown person left the bag in front of the entrance and ran away.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was dispatched to the scene. A corresponding operation was carried out, while the movement of pedestrians and vehicles was blocked on the streets of Dimosthenus and Mitropoleos, near the Consulate General.
After a police operation, the suspicious object, which was in a black bag, was defused by a controlled explosion. The man who left the package is wanted by the police.
