Speaking to MEGA, Mr. Celentis emphasized that the death toll will rise sharply, stressing that it could reach 20,000. “As I said before, the death toll could reach 20,000 people. The earthquake streak will continue for many months, and there will be a big problem in this area. I spoke with Terrence Quick, who is in Cyprus, and he told me that they wanted send help, but the Turks refused it,” he said.
“EMAK should be honored.” Commenting on the mission of the ΕΜΑΚ forces, the director of the Institute of Geodynamics said that they should be marked by the state for their merits. “Employees are putting their lives at risk as the aftershocks continue and they should be honored upon their return to Greece,” he added.
Regarding the earthquake in Thessaloniki, Mr. Celentis said: “The shelters built will not be enough. Housing that is not provided will not be provided. Nothing can happen in Turkey that would be affected by the earthquake in Greece, because it is too far away.”
