Free Housing for EEE Recipients (KEA)

The first beneficiaries of the Κάλυψη program will move into their new homes in March this year. A cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and KEDE is expected to be signed for the implementation of the program.

In March, the settlement of the first beneficiaries of the program will begin, according to which Mr.The state undertakes to pay all rent for housing provided to beneficiaries – socially disadvantaged youth.

A joint ministerial decision will be published next week that will define specific criteria for the selection of beneficiaries (according to the Law 5006/2022 on housing policy, the beneficiaries of the program are people aged 25 to 39 who receive the EEE (KEA), minimum guaranteed income). Next, program contracts will be signed between the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and municipal authorities, which will cooperate in the implementation of the program.

The above is the result of a meeting held today by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis with KEDE President Dimitris Papastergiou, in the presence of Georgios Stamatis, Secretary General of Social Solidarity and Combating Poverty.

Recall that the program “Κάλυψη”, established by Law 5006/2022, is based on the right to receive housing (living in apartments and dormitories). It was previously preceded by the Εστία program, which was intended to house asylum seekers in apartments throughout Greece and was completed in December 2022.

Already 579 property owners who participated in the program “Εστία”, expressed their interest in continuing to provide their homes to host program beneficiaries “Κάλυψη”.

It is reminded that property owners for three years (the period of providing housing for rent) will receive all rent from the state, which also assumes the restoration of housing and any necessary repairs in it.

The goal of the first stage is to use at least 1,000 properties, which will be inhabited by more than 3,000 beneficiaries.
