“If Russian tanks come to Kyiv, World War III will break out”

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto met in Rome at Villa Madama with his Parisian counterpart Sebastian Lecornu.

After the meeting, where they discussed, among other things, the prospects for a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine, he said, quotes Raynews edition:

“The third world war will begin if Russian tanks arrive in Kyiv and on the borders of Europe. Keeping them from coming is the only way to stop this.”

He predicts that “a new decree on assistance to Ukraine may be issued next week.” An agreement on cooperation on the Ukrainian issue, an attempt to expand the possibilities that must be used in order to sit down at the negotiating table – Crosetto’s meeting with his French counterpart was held around these topics. Among the topics covered were security and an “expanded Mediterranean” that also includes the nearby Middle East.

The “friendly and profitable” meeting lasted about an hour. The Italian Defense Minister said:

“There are common values between Italy and France that reinforce a common strategic vision. Full agreement on the topics discussed, including: commitment to Ukraine, security in the Mediterranean, European defense and cooperation between armed forces. It is important that Italy and France, as well as the armed forces of our countries, cooperate in planning what will be our security in the future. Today we have considered many issues, first of all the security of our two countries, starting from the eastern front and what is happening and continues to happen in Ukraine.”

The ministers of both countries agreed that “the war unleashed by Russia represents the most serious threat to peace and stability on the European continent since the end of World War II, a clear violation of the principles of the integrity and inviolability of territorial boundaries, international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

Lecornu, after meeting with a colleague, said:

“Relations in the defense sector between France and Italy are strong. Today in Rome we had one of our regular exchanges with Guido Crosetto, which began on the occasion of a bilateral meeting in Toulon a few days after his appointment. In the same constructive spirit, we reaffirmed our readiness to advance our agenda of military support to Ukraine, defend the Mediterranean against new threats, and explore the possibility of increasing joint production capabilities in relation to air defense.”
