The first snow fell on the ski resorts of northern Greece (video)

The first snow this year has sparingly covered the landscapes in the ski resorts of northern Greece after a recent cyclone brought rain and snow in the mountains.

This is the first snow on the slopes and not enough for skiers to enjoy, but it gives winter sports enthusiasts reason to be optimistic that the ski season will finally start.

The first snow fell on Tuesday in Kaimaktsalan, Seli, Pigadia, Vasilitsa, Falakro, Lailias and Metsovo at an altitude of more than 1500 m above sea level.

Lately, high temperatures for this season have kept skiers and snowboarders off the slopes. If the current weather conditions continue and snow cover improves, some ski resorts will reopen immediately.

In Agios Athanasios, Kailmaksalan, the children’s track is operated with an artificial snow system, and this is when the temperature allows, state broadcaster ERT reported on Monday. What’s worrying tourism and food service professionals at nearby mountain resorts is making reservations for the next few days as they hope for new snow to keep lodging and ski resorts filled with people, ERT adds.
