Christmas table with "bitterness": how much has the cost increased compared to last year

According to the estimate of the Institute of Trade and Services of the Greek Confederation of Trade and Enterprise (ΙΝΕΜΥ-ΕΣΕE), this year’s Christmas table will cost 11-12% more compared to the same set in 2021.

The Institute Ελληνικής Συνομοσπονδίας Εμπορίου και Επιχειρηματικότητας (ΙΝΕΜΥ-ΕΣΕΕ) conducted its annual cost analysis of the Christmas year in accordance with the standard practice02 of the Christmas table. From the analyzed data, it follows that the cost of a Christmas table this year for 6-8 people will average 92 euros (range from 55 to 127.07 euros). The increase is between 11.6% and 12.1% of cost of a standard Christmas table in 2021. As emphasized, products at reduced prices participating in the promotions “family basket” and “holiday basket” were not taken into account in the study.

The variation in prices is justified by the registration of a number of products of different quality in several local markets and in different types of stores. At the same time, it was noted that for reasons of comparability of data with the previous annual INEMY polls to estimate the cost of the festive table, some products included in the “holiday basket” were not included. Against, melomacarona and courabiedes are registered annually and are not included in the “home” or “holiday basket”.

After the holiday season, ΙΝΕΜΥ-ΕΣΕΕ will conduct a nationwide study on “sales dynamics during the holiday season in retail” and provide related statistics.
