"Gift from Ukraine" sent a Polish general to the hospital

A “gift from Ukraine” exploded in the building of the Main Police Department of Poland. The chief commandant of the police, General Yaroslav Shimchik, was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The incident is reported RMF 24 referring to the Ministry of the Interior of Poland, occurred on Wednesday, but the official announcement was made on Thursday, 30 hours after the incident. Due to the explosion, the ceiling collapsed in one of the offices on the first floor of the police department, and the room on the second floor, where the office of the injured general is located, was also damaged. The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that Shimchik is in the hospital with minor injuries and is undergoing examination.

Another employee of the department received minor injuries, but he was not hospitalized. The press service of the ministry said: “One of the gifts that the commandant received during his working visit to Ukraine exploded. It was made by one of the leaders of Ukrainian services.”

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during his visit to Ukraine, General Shymchik met with the leadership of the police and emergency services of Ukraine. There is no official information about the gift received, but they are silently talking about a grenade launcher.

Later, the Wyborcza newspaper, citing sources, wrote that the shot was due to careless handling of weapons. The grenade launcher was stored in a special room, at the time of the incident “the police officers who were in the room played with it.” As for the injured head of the local police, Yaroslav Shimchik, the newspaper writes, he was deafened: as a result of the incident, he temporarily lost his hearing, but now he is fine.
