At the end of the month, the regulation of the Ministry of Development on the “housewife’s basket” comes into force, which, in theory, will help save the family budget of citizens in terms of buying groceries and essential goods.
The latest figures indicate that supermarkets that fail to comply with the rules will face “heavy” fines. In theory “consumer basket” will always include at least one product in each category, provided that it is cheaper than the rest of the products, just below the general prices.
At the same time, supermarkets are required to apply special marking for goods included in the “home basket”, while at the entrances to the shops there should be information leaflets, as well as a detailed list of all goods included in it. Supermarkets are required to send the list to the Ministry of Development weekly or every two weeks, and if they fail to do so, they face a fine of 5,000 euros per day.
Final Choice products that will be included in the “basket”, will make themselves supermarkets. Each individual chain can choose which own brand or private label products they include in their assigned categories. In fact supermarket chains will create their own “baskets”. The information will be posted on the electronic consumer platform. On the site, consumers will also be able to track and compare prices in order to make bargains and try to somehow “make ends meet” by counting change until the next paycheck.
