Greece: emergency bulletin on worsening weather

Heavy rains and storms are expected in western and southern Greece until Sunday morning (10/16/2022), accompanied by a high frequency of lightning, hail and thunderstorms, during the phenomena – strong winds, according to the EMY emergency bulletin on worsening weather.

Meteorologist Sakis Arnautoglu, presenter weather forecast on EPT, speaks of a dichotomy, two scenarios for the development of the situation. The first suggests that the manifestations of bad weather will be local, the second indicates a general instability.

In Attica, according to the second scenario, short showers are expected in the morning. In the west and south of the region, the weather will improve by evening, in the north and east, the manifestations of bad weather will become even more pronounced. The north wind will lower the air temperature to 20°С.

From Thursday evening it will be rainy in Western Macedonia and Epirus, storms are expected in the northern part of the Ionian Sea. Gradually, the rains will spread to the rest of the Ionian Sea and the mainland (except for Eastern Macedonia and Thrace), the Sporades, the Cyclades and the mountainous regions of Crete.

On the night of Friday, October 14 to Saturday, October 15, rains and storms are expected in Sterea, Peloponnese, the Central and Southern Aegean and Crete, the strongest – in the Peloponnese and Crete. From Saturday afternoon, bad weather will be limited to Evia, the eastern continent, the central and southern Aegean and Crete.

A temporary decrease in air temperature is predicted on Friday in the Ionian and continental regions and on Saturday October 15 in Crete, but on Sunday it will return to Thursday levels. The north wind in the Aegean Sea, which will be 4-5 on the Beaufort scale on Friday morning, will gradually increase, and on the night from Friday to Saturday its intensity will reach 6-7 in some places.
