Starting Monday, October 3, vaccinations with updated coronavirus vaccines will begin. The vaccination registration platform will open today (09/27/2022) in the afternoon.
Pfizer’s updated vaccines cover both sub-variants 4 and 5 of the Omicron coronavirus mutation. The platform for all booster recipients, as announced by the Ministry of Health, will open this afternoon, and the first vaccinations with the updated vaccines will begin on Monday.
“We have the most up-to-date updated vaccine,” Secretary General of Primary Health Care Marios Themistocleous said earlier on SKAI radio. He recalled that for the time being it is recommended to vaccinate people over 60 years of age, as well as younger people with certain diseases, healthcare workers and nursing home staff (or carers of immunocompromised people), stressing that “there is no general recommendation for everything population”, as well as for children.
Children are vaccinated only in case of a serious illness or for other reasons, such as, for example, admission to some schools abroad, for example, in America, where a booster dose was required.
Marios Themistocleous emphasized that we have already entered a new phase of the pandemic, which does not cause a large burden on hospitals. According to the expert, this is “an easier mutation compared to the previous one.”
The expert said that according to forecasts “we do not expect an outbreak at this time, so the vaccination rules will change.” “The guidelines will change if we suddenly have too many cases and a big load on hospitals, or if there is some kind of mutation that is not going to be as easy,” he explained.
