Mitsotakis calls on the EU for a common response to the crisis

Prime Minister of Greece: “Putin and Erdogan would like to see another Greek government and do not hide it.”

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis devoted his speech to the Council of Ministers to the most pressing topics – the EU should take initiatives on the energy crisis, apply sound economic measures to ease the burden on households. The Prime Minister of Turkey and Russia did not bypass his attention: “Putin and Erdogan do not hide the fact that they would like to see another government in Greece.”

At the beginning of his speech, Mitsotakis emphasized: “The international situation resembles black clouds that portend a black winter.” He recalled that the war in Ukraine has been going on for six months, and that Russia is attacking Europe with weapons of natural gas, the cost of which has increased 10 times.

The Greek prime minister stressed that Moscow is provoking political instability in those countries that oppose its plans, and said that the Russian president and his Turkish counterpart “do not hide the fact that they would like to see another government in Greece.”

Regarding the migration issue, Mitsotakis spoke about the problems inside the country, while noting that the country is guarding its borders, and Turkey should do the same:

“Instead of mass waves, the migration problem is presented under the guise of supposedly humanitarian incursions. No maneuvers change our position. We are saving innocent people, we are protecting our borders.”

The Greek prime minister expressed satisfaction with Europe’s turn to the energy threat. He noted that after seven months EU comes to the suggestions he made:

“We demand a common response to the crisis. I was one of the first to warn, provoke a reaction in Brussels. Now, after yesterday’s statements by von der Leyen, I will say that better late than never. I insist that every day, that passes without a single response exacerbates the problems.”

The measures that will be announced by him at TIF, the Prime Minister described as “weighted”. However, he warned – the government will continue to provide support, but resources are not inexhaustible:

“Our measures will always be thoughtful. I hear and read about the tsunami of imminent blessings, and this creates false expectations. Real inflation cannot be beaten by inflationary promises.”

At the end of his speech, he writes CNN Greecethe head of government stressed:

“Greece is not turning back, it is firmly on the European path with a government that responds to challenges with society as its allies. Above all, the trust of the citizens, I will not tolerate any humility or compromise with our mistakes.”
