Paris, Louvre: Mona Lisa "attacked" cake

Another attempt on the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci – an inadequate visitor threw a cake at the picture.

The incident took place last night at the Louvre in Paris. One of the most famous paintings in the history of art was “attacked” by a cake. The vandal, as witnesses testified, was a man dressed as an old woman in a wig, who was in a wheelchair before the assassination attempt.

At some point, he easily jumped out of a wheelchair and, shouting “for saving the planet,” threw a cake at the Mona Lisa. He shouted calls to think about the future of the planet, which is threatened with destruction, and shouted that artists should think about the Earth. The man was immediately grabbed by the guards and taken away, and visitors began to actively photograph the “Mona Lisa”, covered with whipped cream.

The masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci, created in the period 1503-1510, was not damaged – the picture is covered with protective bulletproof glass. Louvre workers had to simply clean its surface from the remnants of the cake, writes cnn.gr.

Despite many attacks by vandals in the past, the Mona Lisa has survived and continues to delight and awe visitors to the Louvre. In the 1950s, she was doused with sulfuric acid and a Bolivian student hit her with a rock. A disabled woman in Tokyo tried to douse a painting with paint in 1974 – as a token of dissatisfaction with the lack of ramps. And in the summer of 2009, a tourist from Russia threw a cup of tea at her.

More than a hundred years ago, in 1911, the masterpiece was stolen. As writes Gazeta.ruOn August 21, 1911, Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “La Gioconda” was stolen. Her search caused an exceptional newspaper hype for that time, and after her return, the picture acquired a cult status. This story is full of mysteries and absurdities. The portrait was found two years later in Italy, and on January 4, 1914 she returned to Paris.
