The British edition writes today, referring to the conclusions of analysts, that the fall of the Ukrainian port city is a matter of a few days:
“The siege of Mariupol draws to a bloody conclusion as Russian forces prepare for a final assault on the besieged port on the Sea of Azov. US military analysts have said the city is likely to fall within days.”
According to the estimates of the defenders of Mariupol, writes The Times, after four weeks of siege, 20,000 people died. The city is almost completely destroyed.
Today, April 1, at the request of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, Russia will open a humanitarian corridor from Mariupol to Zaporozhye, Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the Russian National Defense Control Center, said:
“At the personal request of the President of France and the Federal Chancellor of Germany to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, from 10:00 Moscow time on April 1, the Russian Armed Forces are reopening a humanitarian corridor from Mariupol to Zaporozhye (with an intermediate point in Berdyansk). For the successful implementation of this humanitarian operation, it is proposed to carried out with the direct participation of representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).”
Mizintsev called on the Ukrainian side to publish a statement by 03:00 on April 1 in Ukrainian and Russian in the media, as well as to notify representatives of foreign embassies, specialized structures of the UN, the OSCE, the International Committee of the Red Cross and others located on the territory of Ukraine about the humanitarian operation , international organizations – through all available information resources.
The Russian Federation called for starting from 06:00 Moscow time to notify civilians and foreign citizens about the opening of a humanitarian corridor and about gathering places through all communication channels.
One of the requirements of the Russian side is a written notification by 06:00 Moscow time of the Russian side and representatives of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the ICRC, the OSCE and other international organizations about the readiness for the evacuation and the fulfillment of the conditions for the creation of a humanitarian corridor along the specified route, writes TASS.
