US Ambassador to the UN admits that some NATO countries may send troops to Ukraine

Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Ambassador to the UN, announced the decision of the United States not to send its military to Ukraine.

However, she noted in an interview with reporters CNN: “Other NATO countries may decide they want to send troops to Ukraine. It will be their decision.” Regarding the NATO peacekeeping mission, if there is not a single American soldier in it, the ambassador noted:

I cannot imagine what decisions will be made at this NATO conference, and how NATO will react to Poland’s proposal (we are talking about the NATO summit on March 24 and Poland’s intention to offer to send peacekeepers to Ukraine). I can say that American troops will not be on the territory of Ukraine yet. The President has made this clear, and other NATO countries may decide they want to send troops to Ukraine. It will be their decision.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden has repeatedly stated: he does not intend to send American troops to Ukraine in order to avoid drawing the country into a war with Russia.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on March 18 that Poland intends to officially propose the creation of a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine at the next NATO summit. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that an emergency summit of the alliance will be held on March 24. The topic of discussion is Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine has been going on since the morning of February 24. Russian troops are conducting airstrikes on key military and civilian infrastructure, destroying airfields, military units, oil depots, gas stations, churches, schools and hospitals, reports “Radio Liberty”. Shelling of residential areas is carried out using artillery, multiple launch rocket systems and ballistic missiles. Columns of armored vehicles of the Russian army are trying to cordon off Kyiv and several regional centers near the Russian border.

Russia denies that it is waging an aggressive war against Ukraine on its territory and calls it a “special operation” that aims to “demilitarize and denazify.”

Western countries impose powerful economic sanctions against Russia and provide Ukraine with weapons. However, NATO and the leaders of most countries personally refuse requests to “close the sky” over Ukraine.
