Shelter for refugees from Georgia, Ukraine and Armenia

Egypt, Nepal and Benin have been added as safe countries of origin for asylum.

The inclusion of specific countries in safe countries was made by a joint decision of the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarakis and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on the proposal of the Asylum Service (Υπηρεσίας Ασύλου), informs iefimerida.gr.

At the same time, states such as Ghana, Senegal, Togo, Gambia, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Albania, Georgia, Ukraine, India, Armenia, Pakistan and Bangladesh also retain the status of safe countries of origin. The total number of safe countries of origin included in the list now stands at 17.

It is noted that the working group established to define safe third countries and safe countries of origin continues its work and will soon submit proposals for the reform of the legal framework governing the definition of safe third countries. In addition, they will propose the specialization, type, origin, scope and method of evaluation of the data to be taken into account for the adoption of appropriate joint ministerial decisions.
