Discounts 2021: when they start and on what days the stores will be open

From Monday 1st November in Greece, the 15-day period of demi-season autumn discounts begins.

According to the announcement by the Athens Chamber of Commerce, the stores will be open on Sunday 7 November with estimated opening hours from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Citizens are reminded that during intermediate discounts, in addition to indicating the old and new reduced prices of goods and services sold at a discount, it is allowed to indicate and commercialize the percentage of the discount.

On the occasion of the launch of the discounts, President of the Athens Trade Association, Stavros Kafunis, speaking to consumers, says that all commercial markets in Athens remain safe. The shops strictly adhere to the sanitary protocol. Consumers are encouraged to “support the market as much as possible”, to make purchases using reduced prices for a wide range of products.

The Greek Consumer Federation draws the attention of citizens to the following:

Price tags indicating the old (usually crossed out) and new prices should be in visible places in the store. Permissible to indicate percentage discounts. If a discounted price is offered for more than 60% of all goods, the indicated discount rate, and in the case of different discount rates for each product category, must be indicated on the storefront or on retail counters. The range of the provided percentage (“from …% to …%”). Store owners should be able, in case of control, to prove that the old selling price on the billboard is true. A common scam of some merchants is that they deliberately either overcharge the old actual price, or sell “substandard”, so when shopping, take your time and be careful.
