By order of the prosecutor’s office, a 58-year-old man who threatened to blow himself up in front of the monument to the Unknown Soldier, near the government building on Syntagma, was taken to a psychiatric hospital.

The farmer, who parked his agricultural car at the memorial and started shouting: “I will burn you all,” was arrested a few minutes later by a police squad, who immediately arrived at the scene.

According to preliminary information, the man faced psychological problems, and for this reason, as it was announced, he will be taken to the hospital for a psychiatric examination.

As “Russian Athens” wrote earlier, on the morning of October 4, in front of the “Unknown Soldier” memorial located on Syntagma in front of the government building, “hostilities” unfolded.

The inadequate man arrived in a farm truck filled with gasoline cans, which also contained a gas cylinder, and threatened to blow himself up. From the loudspeaker installed in the car, the man shouted: “I will burn you all.”

This immediately gave an alarm signal to the authorities, and police squads, as well as members of the counter-terrorism group, rushed to the scene.

Specialists from the ordnance disposal department, who arrived at the scene to check the car for explosives, confirmed the presence of a gas cylinder and cans of gasoline in the back of the truck.

As a result of operational actions, the terrorist was arrested by the authorities and taken to the police department. According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the man suffers from a mental illness.

According to ELAS, the farmer wrote on his vehicle, among other things, various words such as “chronicler”, “people’s court” and so on.
